# Track visitors from ChatGPT, Perplexity and other AI search

Last updated 2026-11-01 · by Venu Gopal Reddy Muvva, founder

VisitorCompanyFinder shows you which companies arrive from AI search tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity. You can see the specific landing pages they visit and set alerts for these arrivals.

## Steps

- **Install the pixel.** Paste the script tag on your website or add it in Google Tag Manager. This tracks visits and identifies the referral source.
- **View the AI-search report.** Open the report to see which companies arrived from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, or Claude. It lists the specific pages they viewed.
- **Set an alert rule.** Create an alert rule that triggers when a visitor arrives via an AI search tool. Choose where to send the alert, such as Slack or email.
- **Review the account.** Click on a company in the report to see its intent score and visit timeline. Use the AI summary to prepare your outreach.

## How AI-search tracking works

When a visitor clicks a link inside an AI chat interface, the browser sends a referral header. Our pixel reads this header to identify the source tool. We then match the visitor's IP address to a company name. Note that company names currently come from demo IP data until a licensed dataset is connected. This means some visits may show as unattributed if the IP is not in our demo set.

## What the report shows

The AI-search report lists the visits that arrived from an AI assistant and the companies behind them. For each one you see which assistant sent it, such as ChatGPT or Perplexity, and the page it landed on. This shows which of your pages AI answers point people to. On the Accounts page you can also filter to companies that arrived from AI search, to see their score and visit timeline.

## Setting up alerts

You can create an alert rule specifically for AI-search arrivals. This rule triggers when a new company visits your site from an AI tool. You choose the destination for the alert, such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, or email. The alert includes the company name, the AI tool used, and the landing page. This lets your team respond quickly to high-intent leads from AI search.

## Privacy and consent

This feature respects GDPR and the DPDP Act. We do not identify individual people who did not opt in. We only identify the company behind the IP address. If you use strict mode, we store nothing on the visitor's device before they consent. Raw IP addresses are never stored. You can handle data-subject requests through our app or API to comply with privacy laws.

## When VisitorCompanyFinder is not the right tool

If you need to identify specific individuals within those companies without their consent, this tool is not for you. We do not offer person-level identification for anonymous visitors by design. If you require a licensed, comprehensive IP-to-company database for high-accuracy matching across all global networks, our current demo data may not be sufficient until our licensed dataset is connected.

## Questions

### Which AI search tools are supported?

We track referrals from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, and Claude. The report shows which tool referred each company to your site.

### How accurate is the company identification?

Company names currently come from demo IP data. A licensed IP-to-company dataset is coming soon. Until then, some visits may show as unattributed if the IP is not recognized.

### Can I get alerts for AI-search visitors?

Yes. You can create an alert rule that triggers when a company arrives via an AI search tool. You can send these alerts to Slack, Teams, or email.

### Does this feature work in strict mode?

Yes. Strict mode stores nothing on the visitor's device before consent. We still identify the company via IP address and respect privacy laws like GDPR and the DPDP Act.
